publicity

Sarah Jean Grimm brings over a decade of experience to publicity campaigns for literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and poetry. Having spent the first half of her publishing career at Penguin Random House and the latter half at Catapult Book Group, she’s worked with a range of authors—from perennial bestsellers including Sue Grafton, Ace Atkins, and Clive Cussler to literary icons such as Lynne Tillman, Lydia Davis, Wayne Koestenbaum, and James Hannaham; from celebrities including Morrissey and Burt Reynolds to debuts including Diksha Basu, Mariana Enriquez, Joss Lake, Aoko Matsuda, and Elvia Wilk. She loves working on books across genres and seeks work where language and the line are as important as the story being told.

AUTHOR TESTIMONIALS

“Sarah Jean Grimm is the kind of publicist you dream of working with: laser-focused but jovial and calm, tireless, extremely knowledgeable, and with that extra irreplaceable something that opens doors and causes reviews to blossom everywhere (including in the late, great Bookforum, or whichever publication happens to make your heart sing). People went out of their way to learn about my work because of the buzz Sarah Jean created; I felt appreciated and, most importantly, closer to readers.”
—Lucy Ives, author of Loudermilk and Life is Everywhere

“One of the highlights of getting my novel Jacket Weather published was having the support of Sarah Jean Grimm. From the minute she took charge of promoting it, I knew the book was in the right hands. Sarah’s a pleasure to work with: authentic, highly skilled, committed. Plus, she has energy and imagination. If I had a book to promote, Sarah’s the first person I’d call.”
—Mike DeCapite, author of Jacket Weather

“Sarah Jean Grimm has brought two of my books into the world with a care, compassion, and insight I've rarely seen in a publicist. To me, she is so much more than that. She listened to my early goals for the book and helped me strategize about each one. She considered my longer term worries about being pigeonholed and tailored our plan to address them. She listened to my anxieties as publication day neared. And she was constantly coming up with creative ways to get the book in readers' hands. Best of all, each time she spoke to someone about my book, she bubbled with genuine enthusiasm and a deep belief in the value of the book. Every time something good happened, she celebrated with me, and every time I had a disappointment, she helped me put it in perspective. When it was time to pitch essays, she sat down and dug deep with me, coming up with all kinds of amazing ideas based on all that she had taken the time to learn about me and my obsessions. She was a tireless, eloquent, and vitally knowledgeable champion in the literary world. She understood the importance of not only broad, but insightful, high-quality conversation around the book, as well as reviews. She didn’t waste time. She got the book into the right hands fast, and she spoke about it with a passion and eloquence that I'll always appreciate. Sarah is worth every single penny and more—and the next time I have publicity money to spend, I'm going right to her.”
—Dina Nayeri, author of Who Gets Believed? and The Ungrateful Refugee

“Sarah Jean Grimm was above and beyond the best publicist I’d ever worked with, when she was at Catapult and I published the memoir In the Country of Women. I'd been published by other presses, both small and large, but no one came close to the dedication, serious attention to detail, and wide range of contacts as Sarah Jean. In 30 years of publishing novels, short fiction, and essays, I’d gotten to know many editors, but Sarah Jean was very directed and purposeful, and she had great success because of her close reading and her excellent reputation as someone who felt passionately about the books she worked on. I cannot recommend anyone more highly. I’d be proud to work with her again on another book project, and mean that with sincerity. We bonded and laughed so much—over words and language and narrative. She’s one of a kind."
—Susan Straight, author of Mecca and In the Country of Women
